Biography

Adam Elstein is an transdisciplinary designer, phototographer, and writer whose work engages architecture, urbanism, and critical theory. He is the principal of Adam Elstein Studio, a photography and architectural rendering practice based in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Professor Elstein's photographic work has won numerous awards and has been exhibited in the US and Europe. He speaks frequently at professional industry conferences, and is an instructor at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops in Santa Fe New Mexico. Professor Elstein has worked as an architectural designer and fabrication consultant in the studios of several internationally known artists, including Vito Acconci, Alice Aycock, and Kelley Walker. He has been on faculty at Pratt since 2007, and has taught classes on a wide variety of subjects, including computer modeling and visualization, architectural photography, real estate finance and development, professional practice, fourth year undergraduate design studio, and fifth year undergraduate degree project. During the late 1980s and 1990s, Professor Elstein was a managing director of emerging markets trading at several major investment banks. He speaks English, Russian, French, and German.
