Biography

Meg Wacha advances equitable access to information and publishing systems through their dual roles in libraries and the Wikimedia movement. During the day, Meg leads open research and scholarly communications initiatives at the City University of New York, a federated institution of 25 colleges and 31 libraries serving the people of New York City. On nights and weekends, Meg is an active Wikipedian and the President of Wikimedia NYC, a volunteer run non-profit that connects New Yorkers and New York institutions with Wikipedia, Wikimedia, and the larger free culture movement. They serve on advisory boards for LIS Scholarship Archive (LISSA), Wikimedia DC, CUNY Academic Commons (an open source social networking tool), and International Open Access Week. Before joining CUNY, Meg was the Research and Instruction Librarian for the Performing Arts at Barnard College, where they once attempted to interpret the principles of open access via modern dance.
