Writing a Living Land Acknowledgment Session 2
November 13, 2026 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM
East Reading Room (Library, 2nd Floor), 200 Willoughby Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11205
The Pratt Institute Living Land Acknowledgement is the only official document generated by the Institute containing principles with respect to Indigenous knowledges. It is an aspirational document that seeks to not only acknowledge the significance of Indigenous creativity but to “actively work to challenge the legacy of settler colonialism, undo its extractive and exploitative land practices, and express gratitude to the stewards of the land and water who came before us, and honor their descendants who are here today.”
In session 2, participants will spend some time drafting their own living land acknowledgments—drawing on their reflective thinking and writing from the first session—as well as discussing what makes an effective living land acknowledgement and providing feedback to one another. We will conclude by discussing next steps for writing. Facilitated by Emily Martin (Writing) and Dan Boscov Ellen (SSCS) and moderated by Jeffrey Hogrefe (HMS).
