The Window, Group Exhibition: Opening Reception

February 8, 2018 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

“Outside the open window was no sunlight, no cops, no kids—nothing. Nothing but a gray and formless mist, pulsing slowly as if with inchoate life.”

— John Riverside (Robert A. Heinlein), The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag, 1942

The window is the fundamental artistic device; it is a transparent membrane, a portal, a screen, a site for information, observation, action. Everything exists inside the window. Through the contributions of seven artists working across visual, sonic, time-based and digital media, The Window examines the window in a variety of roles.

The window is a printing plate that frames pictorial space. The window is a screen inside of which there is both time and space. The window mechanizes the act of viewing. The window becomes the subject of the artwork. The window physically supports the artwork. The window is atmosphere. The window lets us see.
