Steuben Hall, Floor 2. Pratt Studios 200 : Design Center Gallery, 379 DeKalb Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11205

A carefully arranged collection of art and design books laid out on a beige textured surface that extends up against two white walls, creating a sculptural backdrop. The books are positioned in a semi-circular pattern, each cover facing upward, showcasing a diverse range of titles, colors, and graphic designs. Some visible titles include: – “Parent/ Wash/ Study” – “As One Single Universe” by Pauline Julier – “Who Are You, Polly Maggoo?” – “Strecke Records Archive” – “The Transmission of Affect” – “Ways of Seeing” The covers vary in style—from minimalist to vividly illustrated—and span subjects in art theory, contemporary culture, and visual studies. The setup suggests an editorial or archival documentation, emphasizing both design and intellectual content. The soft lighting and intentional composition evoke a sense of quiet reverence, as if these books form a curated constellation of creative inquiry and influence.

The Federal Office of Culture ( FOC ) annually recognises, through the competition The Most Beautiful Swiss Books, the most remarkable achievements in editorial design, with the aim of promoting the quality of Swiss production.

In 2025, twenty works produced in 2024 were selected from 362 submissions, on the recommendation of an international jury chaired by Sereina Rothenberger and composed of Mathias Clottu, Julie Peeters, Tasheka Arceneaux-Sutton, and Marco Walser. The evaluation criteria focused on graphic and typographic design, the quality of printing and binding, as well as the choice of materials.
