Talks at The Commons: Set Decorator David Schlesinger

September 16, 2025 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Pfizer 730: The Commons

A futuristic, minimalist room with sterile white walls and muted furniture. On the left, a man in a white lab coat stands beside a wall-mounted reel-to-reel tape recorder and equipment. On the right, a woman in pale green clothing stands at a sleek counter with stacked glass dishes under bright lighting. In the center are modern blue sofas and a table with a chess set. The ceiling has a large illuminated panel, giving the room an austere, clinical atmosphere. The overall design feels retro-futuristic, reminiscent of mid-20th-century visions of space-age interiors.

Pratt’s School of Design is excited to welcome David Schlesinger, an Emmy-nominated set decorator recognized for Apple TV+’s Severance, whose environments—familiar yet unsettling—became central to the show’s visual identity. Other notable projects include the upcoming Kathryn Bigelow film House of Dynamite, Leave the World Behind, Knives Out, John Wick: Chapter 2 & 3, The Equalizer 2, The Immigrant, Annie, and more. Featured in Architectural Digest and House Beautiful, his work is celebrated for crafting immersive worlds through meticulous detail.

Talks at The Commons will amplify the practice and impact of design in both focused and expanded approaches of what it means to design. This is the first of three talks this fall; join us at Pfizer!
