Table Issue 1 Book Launch

table is a journal exploring critical ideas and practices in architectural design and a venue for observation, analysis, provocation, and discussion. Across ten issues and five years, this journal prompts architects in the United States to engage with and reflect upon contemporary discourse and practice, ensuring continual exchange among leading voices in architectural design and education. In the first issue, titled discipline, Germane Barnes, Andrew Holder, Eric Höweler, Mariana Ibañez, Lydia Kallipoliti, Stephanie Lin, Florencia Rodriguez, and Michael Young articulate a living, evolving discipline of architecture where contemporary practices, projects, or texts reassert the power of architectural knowledge and technique to define and transform the world. Join us for a presentation of the journal by cofounders Iman Fayyad and Kyle Miller, followed by presentations from and conversation with journal contributors.

Iman Fayyad is Assistant Professor of Architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. She is founder of projectif, an award-winning research practice that explores architectural geometry’s relationship with material economy, sensory perception, and the politics of physical space. Her writing and design work have been published and exhibited in venues including Technology: Architecture and Design, Nexus Network Journal (Architecture and Mathematics), Advances in Architectural Geometry, Log, the New York Times, and the Chicago Architecture Biennial. Her research on zero-waste construction techniques has received numerous awards and grants. She is a 2024 MacDowell Fellow and a 2026 Affiliated Fellow at the American Academy of Rome. She holds a M.Arch from Harvard University and a B.Sc from MIT.

Kyle Miller is Associate Dean and Associate Professor at Syracuse University’s School of Architecture, Co-Founder of Possible Mediums, and a MacDowell Fellow (’19). His design research, supported by the Graham Foundation and Syracuse University, has been exhibited at the A+D Museum, Harvard GSD, and Yale School of Architecture. Beyond co-authoring Possible Mediums and Building Practice, his writing appears in Log, Monu, Constructs, Pidgin, Project, Offramp, PLAT, Room One Thousand, and JAE. He directed Syracuse’s Florence program (2016–2018), previously taught at the University of Kentucky (2009–2013), and worked with UNStudio in Amsterdam. He holds degrees from the University of Michigan and UCLA.
