Landscape Seminar Series Sentient Landscapes
November 14, 2025 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM
Pratt Institute School of Architecture Higgins Hall North 304 61 St. James Pl., Brooklyn, NY
Current biological research documents plant scent signals, synapse-like electrical information transfer, vision-like capabilities, and other intelligences thought to be only human. How is landscape architecture required to respond? Landscape architecture designs public space – gardens, parks, squares, streetscapes, road right of ways, national parks – as dynamic forms, changing with climate and cultural norms; it is a discipline that designs with plants and incorporates habitat for animals, birds, and insects. How can these spaces be designed as sites of non-human communication and sentience?
