Fred Levrat has had the honor and the privilege to design ten exhibitions during his professional career. The lecture will discuss how the Materialization of Information generates a specific tectonic language, challenging the hierarchy between the physical and informational environment.

Frederic Levrat is a passionate educator, having taught Architecture studio for 20 years at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation as well as 30 at Pratt School of Architecture, Pratt School of Interior Design and New York City University of Technology.

Levrat founded the international group ARX in 1988. Currently he practices as the principal of Levrat Design as well as the Director of Urban Think Tank in New York, producing several projects recognized internationally, from audacious large tower design for Abu Dhabi to a research center for the European Space Agency in Switzerland, bars and restaurants in New York, as well as humanitarian projects in Afghanistan and Cape Town, building numerous schools, clinics and residential units. His work on alternative Community Centers includes the Baruch Bathhouse proposal in the Lower East Side of New York, the Empower Community Center in the Khayelitsha’s neighborhood of Cape Town and the Theater for Civil Society in Kabul.

Frederic Levrat’s work has been exhibited recently in a large retrospective show in Switzerland, following exhibitions of his work in New York and Japan. Levrat is published in numerous magazines and books and has lectured in Japan, France, Switzerland, China, India, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Jordan and in the USA. Levrat is currently working on the publication “Knowledge City”, exploring the relationship between the immaterial and the material in the contemporary built environment.

Frederic Levrat holds a Master in Architecture from Lausanne Federal Institute of Technology, in Switzerland. Established in New York for over 30 years, Levrat has received numerous awards such as the New York Foundation for the Arts in Architecture, the Young Architects Forum and the first prize in the Europan 5 Competition. Levrat was a project designer in the office of Eisenman Architects and Tadao Ando Associates.
