INTtalk: Splitting Off with Pierre de Looz

“Writing and the Literature of Interiors” is a creative writing course which aims to enrich students’ ability to communicate about design to a broad audience. The lecture will provide an overview of the course and its foundation in the writerly concept of “voice.” Although voice designates our ability to project language out loud, the lecture will discuss how voice is a product of writing rather than its source, splitting our experience in two across a boundary we call the interior.

Pierre Alexandre de Looz is an interdisciplinary writer, educator and designer. He is Adjunct Professor (CCE) in Humanities and Media Studies, teaches in Undergraduate Architecture and has taught in Graduate Industrial Design. Besides running an independent design practice, he has consulted on several bi-annual design publications and co-founded PIN-UP magazine on Architecture where he serves as the magazine’s Editor-at-Large since 2006. He has written for a wide-range of publications such as the New York Times, Artnews, 032c and Bomb.
