First Year Conversations: Coded Translation
October 7, 2025 11:30 AM â 1:30 PM
Student Union

Please join us on Tuesday October 7 at 11:30am in the Student Union for a discussion and workshop with Joseph Morris as he takes us on an exploration of the nature of TRANSLATION and how it is defined, deployed, conveyed and materialized across disciplines. As part of the inquiry, you are invited to record your stories, and bring your laptop to create a collaborative interactive audio project. This is the tenth installment in the biannual First-Year Conversations series, a regularly recurring set of conversations exploring how fundamental concepts are transformed when taken up in different media across your classes and practices.
While the event is designed for first-year students who concurrently explore this concept in their classes, everyone in the Pratt community is warmly welcome to attend what promises to be a vibrant interdisciplinary conversation. Refreshments will be served.
Joseph Morris is a Brooklyn-based artist whose work spans sculpture, installation, and interactive media. Blending traditional craftsmanship with coding and electronics, he creates responsive systems that explore perception, communication, and the shifting boundaries between human and machine.
