A Critical Conversations Event

Art has the power to challenge norms, evoke emotion, elicit awareness, and demand justice.

Artists are agents of change, deepening societal understanding of the many perspectives and pieces of our collective existence—oftentimes propelling citizens into action to create positive social, cultural, and political reform.

The Office of Student Involvement is hosting an art show in the Student Union from September 23 to October 14, 2024. The art show is dedicated to giving students a platform to express their distinct perspectives and thoughts related to identity awareness, civic engagement, activism, forms of resistance, sociopolitical topics, and movements.

In regard to submission requirements, artwork must be 2D canvas or print pieces no larger than 24×36 inches and the content must adhere to the Pratt Institute’s community standards.

Pratt Institute’s mission is to educate students to become creative, responsible professionals who will contribute fully to society. The Institute upholds values and standards that support that mission and holds high expectations regarding the conduct of students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Above all, we respect one another and behave in ways that advance the free association of people and ideas. We cherish the diversity represented by our people and their disparate values and ideas. At the same time, we expect each student, faculty, and staff member to value and uphold the community standards essential to the pursuit of academic excellence and social responsibility.

Pratt Institute takes the view that any action by one person that causes harm to another person will not be tolerated. Bullying, harassment, or any behavior that causes disruption to a community member’s ability to learn conflicts with the values of Pratt Institute and violates the community member’s right to feel protected, nurtured, and valued.

Please use the art show submission form to share your piece and its purpose with us for consideration by September 6, 2024. For questions or additional information, please contact owitsama@pratt.edu.

This event is part of Critical Conversations: creating space for and educating one another about our multiple cultural contexts, activism, civil discourse, and academic engagement.
