“Building With Writing” is an exhibition that celebrates artifacts of our design discipline in relation to writing and the essay form in particular. Clarifying, expanding, and occasionally disrupting, the relationship between the artifact and the written word accrues depth and cultural relevance on both sides of the ledger.

The show originated at Princeton led by Michael Meredith of MOS to celebrate Stan Allen’s long career as both a writer and architect. In this new iteration here at Pratt, Michael’s curatorial framework and Studio Lin’s graphic format is used to foreground the work of our faculty. In addition to Stan Allen’s work, Pratt faculty members have submitted material focusing on key ideas that have also animated our department over the past several decades. The juxtaposition will vivify the inter-institutional currents that have animated recent work in the American academy and the often central role that Pratt faculty have played in the exchange of ideas.

Please visit the show throughout the month of September and join the exhibition closing on September 21st as Stan Allen joins us in our first Pratt Sessions in conversation with Andrew Holder, Chair of Graduate Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design, as well as our faculty.
