BLUE WEEK: Rising Seas: Gotham on the Edge (A Mini Conference)

October 4, 2019 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) of the United Nations releases its report, “The Ocean and the Cryosphere in a Changing Climate” in September 2019. One area it considers is sea-level rise and its implications for low-lying islands, coasts, and communities—such as New York City. Join Pratt Institute for a focused discussion with leading experts on the history and preparedness of New York City as it confronts the threat of rising seas. We will be joined by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson (marine scientist and policy expert), Michael Marrella (NYC Department of City Planning) and Ted Steinberg (historian and author of Gotham Unbound: The Ecological History of Greater New York). Hosted by the Department of Social Science and Cultural Studies, the Global South Center, LEAP, and the Sustainability Coalition.
