Pratt is in the 2022-23 First-gen Forward cohort announced by the Center for First-generation Student Success, an initiative of NASPA—Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education and the Suder Foundation. The recognition is for higher education institutions that have demonstrated a commitment to improving experiences and advancing outcomes for first-generation college students. Pratt has been committing time and resources to its first-generation student population through the First-Generation Pratt committee established in spring 2020. Students in the Art of Scent class led by Visiting Instructor Alexis Karl created an aroma-driven artwork from a chosen fruit. See their creative projects @pratt_integrative_courses.

Housing Justice for All, the Community Service Society, NYU’s Urban Democracy Lab, and Pratt Center for Community Development released a new report detailing how Black New Yorkers continue to face inequities when securing and maintaining permanent housing.

Undergraduate architecture student Megan Chen designed “The Journey to Rest and Relaxation” which explores creating a physically challenging landscape that would lead to a place for solitude and reflection. Read more @prattsoa.

Taisha Carrington, BFA Fine Arts (Jewelry) ’18, is a finalist for the Art Jewelry Forum 2022 Young Artist Award. Carrington will exhibit work alongside other finalists at Platina Stockholm Gallery during Schmuck, the annual international art jewelry fair in Munich, Germany, held this year from July 6 to 10.

On March 24, Hesse Flatow gallery in Manhattan is opening a solo show of art by Nat Meade, assistant chair of fine arts, featuring paintings and works on paper that are often stand-ins for himself as he analyzes his feelings around becoming an adult, husband, teacher, and father. Sound artists and composers Mendi + Keith Obadike (a duo which includes Associate Professor of Humanities and Media Studies Mendi Obadike) recently engaged in a virtual conversation on their musical satellite RingShout. The talk was part of the Carnegie Hall Afrofuturism Festival and is available to watch on YouTube.

Graduate architecture students Melissa Chua and Robin Smith designed “Cosmosis” that creates a vibrant community through integrating private and public space. Read more @prattsoa.

Manushi Ashok Jain, MS Urban Design ’17, was included in the 2022 Forbes India 30 Under 30. The list highlighted her co-founding of the Sponge Collaborative planning and design firm that has worked on sustainable integrated housing, mobility, and infrastructure solutions around the world.
