Fine Arts Fellow in Civic Engagement Alex Strada spoke at CUNY Graduate Center, organized by the United Nations Network on Migration on December 16, for Every Day Is Migrants Day. The event showcased work by “a diverse group of artists, scholars, and organizations with projects that foreground migrant narratives” and “highlight[ed] the essential role migrants play in the creation of culture.”

TheyDream, a new film by William David Caballero, BFA Digital Arts ’06, received the NEXT Special Jury Award for Creative Expression from the Sundance Film Festival. The film was also reviewed by the International Cinephile Society. “Gentle but life-affirming, TheyDream is an inventive, delicate tribute to family and creativity, understanding that art is not an answer to grief, but rather the vessel through which those harrowing emotions can finally be spoken.”

The Pratt Center for Community Development’s Made in NYC team reflected on their 2025 achievements, noting, for example, that more than 115 companies signed up for member benefits and more than 630 members joined their learning labs over the course of the year.

Siha Park, MFA Fine Arts (Painting and Drawing) ’25, is featured in Canvas Rebel in an interview that explores her journey as an artist. “The range of artworks and experiences available here makes New York an invaluable resource for any artist. The American Library Association announced that Kadir Nelson, BFA Communications Design ’96, received the Coretta Scott King—Virginia Hamilton Award for Lifetime Achievement; alumnus Jashar Awan received a Randolph Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished picture book for children for his illustrated book Every Monday Mabel; and Fine Arts alumnus Peter Kuper received an Alex Award for best adult book that appeals to teen audiences for his illustrated book Insectopolis: A Natural History.

Lucia Bautista and Kat Silk, both BFA Fine Arts ’26, were selected for the National Arts Club’s 2026 Will Barnet Student Show. “Showcasing the work of undergraduate students from prestigious New York area schools, the exhibition and honorariums have become highly recognized in the art world, and the level of talent continues to be fresh and original.”
