This course explores the history of the scientific study of the human body from ancient Greece and Rome to the present. It examines the ways in which different communities sought to study, control, and change their bodies, paying particular attention to how these practices were shaped by culture, politics, and society. It also explores the ethical and political stakes of human experimentation and the relevance of this history today.
