MSCI-207CP Statistics for Creative Work

3 Credits

This course introduces students to data literacy, statistical reasoning, and basic computational workflows for analyzing real-world data. Rather than treating statistics as a purely mathematical subject or coding as a standalone technical skill, the course asks how data become evidence: where data come from, how they are collected and structured, how they reflect social and institutional choices, how they can be cleaned and analyzed, and how they can be used responsibly in arguments.Students will learn spreadsheet and statistical coding language(s), including data import, cleaning, descriptive statistics, visualization, sampling, uncertainty, hypothesis testing, correlation, and simple regression. The course emphasizes accessible, reproducible analysis using datasets from civic, cultural, humanities, design, and social contexts.
