This seminar will explore computationally driven massing design strategies for buildings within the grid of Manhattan, New York City. Departing from planning policy and Ralph Knowles 20th century research into the solar envelope, students will ask how the combination of simulation and design might offer a contemporary vision for the New York tower akin to those of Hugh Ferris dramatic 1922 renderings.
