SS-303P Life under capitalism

3 Credits

  • SS-303P-01

Most of us take living in a capitalist economy for granted. But what exactly is capitalism? How does it shape our lives as individuals, as citizens, and as a society? This course examines these questions by focusing on the basic building blocks of the capitalist economy: commodities. In working through how goods as diverse as sugar, tobacco, our attention, and time itself are produced, sold, and valued and politically and ethically contested this course provides a lens for reflecting on the historical, political, and economic context within which market exchange takes place.
