This course will introduce the core concepts of game design. Students will learn basic game design terminology, history, and philosophy, and put this into practice by making analog and digital games. Students will be introduced to the iterative process of game development through learning how to playtest their games and give constructive feedback. By the end of the course, students will have between multiple game prototypes, that may include a card game, board game, narrative digital game, and digital platformer.Throughout the course, lectures and discussions will be given on the core concepts of game design that will be reinforced through playing existing games and creating short prototypes. Playing a large variety of games will be required so students broaden their understanding of what games can be and what games are out. By the end of the course, students will leave with a greater vocabulary to talk about game arts and a library of games to pull inspiration from.
