HAD-482 Introduction to Digital Humanities
3 Credits
What happens when the digital and humanities meet? What kinds of materials, methods, insights, conflicts, and possibilities emerge? How does data transform the way we create, manage and interpret knowledge? This course introduces students to the field of the digital humanities; it addresses digital approaches to the humanities as well as the history, theory, and ethics of the field. Students gain basic facilities with a variety of digital tools, platforms and approaches that serve the humanities-including data manipulation and visualization, mapping, archiving and text analysis-and have the opportunity to apply what they learn to their own project.
