Building on the themes explored in the 648A, this seminar challenges students to develop site specific design interventions that reimagine civic infrastructure, public space, and material practices in Mexico City. Drawing from insights gained through the Fieldwork studies completed in Mexico City including explorations of ancient and contemporary architecture, public amenities, infrastructure, and local fabrication spaces students will critically engage with the urban landscape to propose adaptive reuse strategies that enhance the Public Commons. The concept of the Public Commons, understood as shared and equitable access to essential natural resources such as air, water, and green space, will serve as a foundational framework for each project. Students will explore architectures agency in shaping public space by developing new modes of ground, landscape, thresholds, and space that foster inclusivity and resilience.
