From 1600 BCE to 400 CE and stretching geographically from Mesopotamia to Iberia and Britain to Nubia, we will follow a series of themes that interconnect Greek and Roman art and design. These include: changing representations of human figures and their centrality to later western art; the incorporation of outside cultural influences, especially from Southwest Asia and North Africa; how myths, epics, allegories, and historical events were translated visually; the development, canonization, and diffusion of architectural forms; aspects of living in a Greek or Roman house and city; and the defining aspects of "Roman art" and "artists".
