SS-324P Film Festivals History and Practice
3 Credits
This course will both examine the history and theory behind film festivals as well as offer the practical tools required to put on a public facing festival. The class will culminate in the Wallabout Film festival, planned and organized throughout the course by the students. We will engage in conversation with film festival professionals and we will examine how film festivals have influenced and been affected by wider cultural and countercultural forces, through reading, research, screenings and discussion. We will also examine the role of film festivals in the broader film industry, and the local implications and wider logic of the festival economy and festival circuits.
