PIC-304P Chill/Hang

3 Credits

Chill/Hang is a deep dive into the analytical and performative examinations of processes, conditions, and (non)actions that allow creative work to flourish. Through a multitude of engagements with these essential dimensions of innovative practice, students will be able to identify and put into play methods and strategies that can lead to insights, discoveries, and singular pieces and projects. We will explore the beneficial dimensions of tinkering and play, risk and failure, slowness and rumination, chilling and hanging out, ignorance and bliss, procrastination, idleness, doing nothing, aimless wandering and poetic fugues. Readings, immersive activities, field trips and ongoing reflections will generate collective (non)actions as well individual findings. Ultimately, we will see how these engagements can lead to insights, eureka moments, unique paths, productive changes of direction, solutions, the conceptualization of a body of work, and the optimization of creative practice.
