PHOT-110 Being with Photography I
3 Credits
This is part one of a two-part foundational course that will introduce students to the ways in which they can think and express through the materials of analog and digital photography. The course will introduce basic techniques including lensless photography, small and medium format camera operation, black and white film exposure and development, contact printing and negative enlargement in the darkroom, scanning, a grayscale workflow in Photoshop, and print output via inkjet printers. Emphasis will be placed on students applying these techniques as tools for inquiry, and in creating an environment where projects are held in a state of possibility, evolving and improving through a series of contextual conversations.
