This course examines the theories and practices for making archival collections discoverable, accessible, and relevant to diverse user communities. It covers user services, including understanding the research needs and interests of varied user groups and developing reference and access strategies. Additionally, the course explores the development of outreach and public programming, including the creation of targeted initiatives for diverse populations, such as educational programs, events, instruction, and physical and virtual exhibitions. The course also delves into archival advocacy, emphasizing the communication of an archive's mission and value to stakeholders, funders, and policymakers.
