Always make work that scares you a little, and don’t rush to make beautiful things. Let your projects ask uncomfortable questions first, and the beauty will come afterwards!

Be true to your work, but your work doesn’t define who you are.

Before I came to Pratt, I never saw myself as an artist, despite making art my whole life. The people at Pratt, the professors, the environment—all of it completely changed my view of myself for the better, and I started to believe in myself as a creative and as an artist. It’s been so special.

Allison Jackson
MA Media Studies

As someone who grew up with a single mother in a household of four brothers, I really struggled to feel like I could even make it to college, let alone art school. In high school I felt very isolated from my peers, and my favorite memory of Pratt was in the first week of school, where I was around so many like-minded people for the first time, and that was when I finally felt I deserved to be somewhere.

Morgan Jones
BFA/MA Art and Design Education

Pratt taught me that growth often happens quietly. It happens when you stay in rooms that challenge you, ask questions that feel difficult, and continue showing up even before you feel entirely ready. To future students, I would say, “You do not need to feel fully confident to step forward.” Readiness is often the result of action, not the prerequisite for it.

Qi Ling
MPS Arts and Cultural Management

What a blast I had in my time at Pratt. I grew a lot as an artist and as a person. The friends you make and the people you know influence you a lot. I would say don’t lose the starry eyes you enter here with; you’ll need it for the professional world! The outside is still full of light and love!

I loved going to events that were hosted outside of my major; it helped me meet new friends and opened my eyes to what kind of work was being produced here at this school.

I’ve loved my time at Pratt and all the growth I’ve seen in myself, but most of all, I’m grateful for the people I’ve met along the way. Cheers to being one degree smarter, and best of luck to all future endeavors.

Absolutely loved my time at Pratt. From the helpful professors to the open access to amazing studios and facilities. Pratt has given me a beautiful depth of knowledge, going from basic color theory to advanced design principles and hands-on making skills. Would not regret my time here!

Take advantage of the study abroad opportunities if you can! Singapore, Hong Kong, and Mexico were an amazing experience.

My favorite memory was being on the women’s basketball team and being surrounded by a group of hard-working and dedicated women, specifically getting car-sick and having a loving family to help you and give you energy. My advice for students is to create a Google Drive with all your work and keep it organized! Will save your life before you graduate.

Emily Vazquez
BFA Art and Design Education

I’ve experienced both Munson and Brooklyn campus. Both of the campuses have very helpful and enthusiastic faculty. I enjoyed the small-class instruction at Munson and felt like I was in a big family there, as we didn’t have many students. And the Brooklyn campus is gorgeous and fulfilled my imagination of college life.

Ka Yee Lee
BFA Art and Design Education

My time at Pratt has been a process of exploration, creatively, intellectually, and personally. I’ve learned that the most valuable part of being here isn’t just the projects you complete but the conversations, collaborations, and risks you take along the way.
