Biography

Dan Bucsescu, architect and educator has been in private practice in New York since 1978. He holds a B of Arch from The City College of New York and received a Master of Science in Architectural Psychology from University of Surrey, Guilford, UK in 1976. Professor Bucsescu has been teaching at Pratt Institute since 1980. He has lectured and written about architectural education with a focus on grounding the pedagogical experience in theories of knowledge and philosophy of art.

Recent Academic and Publishing Activities

1991 Organized and moderated a Symposium titled : “Between Digital Seduction and Salvation”

1992 Prof.Bucsescu was the Faculty Advisor for the 3rd Pratt Journal “On Making”

1992 Prof. Bucsescu was appointed Director of the International Summer Seminar for A Architecture and Urban Design.

1996 Launched internet course 1996 undergraduate and graduate elective

1997 Prof.Bucsescu was Distinguished Visiting Professor and Seminar leader and lecturer Seminar Title: “ The Fabrication of Architectural Facts” INHA University, School of Architecture Summer Architectural Workshop Inchon, Korea.

1998 Prof.Bucsescu was appointed to the Architectural Advisory Group of The Brooklyn Arts Council.

1999 Prof. Bucsescu was a guest on “On The Line”, National Public Radio with Brian Lehrer on the subject: Architecture and Professional Ethics.

2002 Organized Conference: on th WTC Memorial Design IAS summer program

2003 Published “Architecture:The Question of Memory” Pratt Institute

2006 Moderated a panel discussion under the title “The Production of Images” at ACSA Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah

2006-08 Teaching Fifth Year Degree Project-Undergraduate thesis

2007 Published in “Stone Design” edited by Daab -Stone House in Millbrook, NY by Loft Publications, a publishing house in Barcelona specialized in books on architecture and design. Julio 2007 Professor Bucsescu is currently in contract with Fairchild Books, a division of Condé Nast Publications , Inc. to write a textbook aimed at design and architecture students titled Thinking Outside the Structure: Critical Thinking for Designers and Architecture Students.
