NEA Recommendation Letter from Jay Doblin

Rowena Reed Kostellow was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1981. Here is a letter of recommendation from her contemporary and colleague, Jay Doblin.

To Whom It May Concern:

Rowena Reed Kostellow told me of her intention to produce a text on design education. In my opinion, Mrs. Kostellow is probably the most informed and experienced educator in aesthetics in design and teaching. My respect for her ability is boundless.

In many ways, much of the refined form of Americas products can be traced to her influence; hundreds of her students are in key positions in most major corporate and consultant organizations. The prospect of a text by Mrs. Kostellow is too good an opportunity to be missed. Such a text could be seminal in future design and design teaching. I encourage NEA to give her its full support. I cannot support her application with greater enthusiasm.

Sincerely,

Jay Doblin
