Launched in January 2021 as more faculty from a range of departments were beginning to teach Pratt Integrative Courses, the peer-to-peer mentorship program is meant to facilitate the integration of faculty within “PIClandia”.
As most faculty teaching PICs have a home department, we thought it a good idea to match anyone teaching PICs for the very first time with faculty with more experience, so that challenges that are PIC-specific can be discussed in a supportive way. We matched one experienced PIC professor with someone new to teaching PICs, so that the faculty new to teaching the PIC can reach out to their fellow peer-to-peer mentor and probe their experiences and insights.
Peer-to-Peer Mentorship is a mini-program of mentorship where a seasoned PIC teacher can be a resource for those who are going to teach their first PICs (whether they are seasoned faculty in another area or not). In turn, we believe this micro-mentoring can extend beyond the PIClandia borders and nourish teaching across the Institute, as PIC-teaching faculty integrate lessons and practices into their departmental work and meetings.
