Tokyo is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, and is both the capital and largest city of Japan. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world.  It is the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government. Tokyo is in the Kanto region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands.  Musashino Art University (MAU) located in Tokyo, marked the 80th anniversary of its foundation on 2009. MAU was founded as a private art school and was officially designated as a university in 1962. Currently MAU is one of the leading art institutes in Japan, with over 4,500 students and 3,000 correspondence students.
