Policy Summary
Staff member computer platform assignment is determined by job function and responsibilities. All assignments will be recorded in official position descriptions within the HR module of the Colleague database by Human Resources. The standard computer platform provided to all Pratt Institute staff will be Microsoft Windows-based. There will be no exceptions unless a valid case relating to the functions of a position and the deficiencies of a Windows-based platform to perform those functions has been presented by a department supervisor and jointly approved by Information Technology and Human Resources.
Policy Audience
This policy applies to all staff employees with the exception of deans, assistant deans, chairpersons, assistant chairpersons. Computer platform selection for faculty employees is not covered by this policy and is determined at the discretion of the department based upon curricular needs/alignment and other factors.
Appeals/Exception Process
Appeals with a well stated and valid business use case must be directed to Human Resources (with copy to Information Technology) for review in consultation with Information Technology. When submitting an appeal, the supervisor must include the specific responsibilities that require a change in platform along with information regarding the lack of Windows support for that function. Personal preference of platforms will not be considered as a relevant factor for an exception.
