Landry Low (B.F.A. Fashion Design ’15) was presented with a $10,000 Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Scholarship Award at “Pratt Presents: Women of Influence in the Business of Style,” which was held at the IAC Building in Manhattan on May 8. Low was selected by members of Pratt Institute’s Fashion Department as well as company executives for her exceptional talent and passion for design. The award was presented by Eric Shepherd, president of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars North America.
Low was recognized before 300 guests who earlier in the evening witnessed the unveiling of the “Wraith Inspired by Fashion”—Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ latest expression of innovative design—and the panel “Pratt Presents: Women of Influence in the Business of Style” with three fashion leaders in conversation about leading change in the industry, moderated by InStyle fashion news director Eric Wilson. The “Women of Influence” panel included Calvin Klein, Inc.’s chief marketing officer Melisa Goldie, a Pratt alumna; designer Tracy Reese, who is founder and creative director of the Tracy Reese label; and designer Maria Cornejo, who founded Zero + Maria Cornejo.
In presenting the award to Low, Shepherd underscored the importance of supporting promising young women who can become top decision makers in their fields. “As the father of a young daughter, I am inspired by the women who spoke on the panel tonight and by Landry, whose ascending career we will certainly be watching closely.”
The sponsorship of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars for the “Women of Influence“ event was an effort led by Pratt’s Strategic Partnerships and Institutional Support department. “Landry Low represents a generation of young designers who have the drive, talent, and patience to make a tremendous mark in their field,” said Ludovic Leroy, Pratt’s executive director of strategic partnerships and institutional support. “For more than a century, Pratt Institute has developed promising young women who become top decision-makers and we are committed to continuing that valuable mission.”
Low was also recognized as one of 16 seniors chosen to present collections in the 2015 Pratt Institute Fashion Show on May 7. “It’s really exciting to be chosen for this award, which is a great honor,” she said. “The education I’ve received at Pratt Institute, both inside and outside the classroom, speaks to the topnotch faculty here and the incredible design opportunities I wouldn’t have found anywhere else. The only boundary at Pratt is your own imagination.”
