Pratt Institute’s Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator (BF+DA) has been awarded a $270,000 grant through New York State’s 2017 Regional Economic Development Council Awards. The Empire State Development (ESD) award will help with capital improvements, allowing the BF+DA to increase its capacity by admitting more startup companies and the ability to purchase the latest machinery for their advanced manufacturing center. Pratt launched the BF+DA to provide high-potential design start-ups with the resources they need to establish viable businesses that benefit the environment and society.

The ESD grant awarded to the BF+DA is a part of the $64.8 million given to projects by the New York City Regional Council. Funding through the ESD is available for projects intended to create or retain jobs; prevent, reduce, or eliminate unemployment and underemployment; and/or increase business or economic activity in a community or region.
