So, what’s a zine, anyway? … Well, basically it’s an accessible self-published DIY magazine with images and text often produced from photocopy machines and made for small-scale circulation.

Our Zine is different! The ‘Making & Breaking’ Zine series brings a local, low-tech, jewelry-focused approach in exploring the Statue of Liberty’s environmental and cultural imaginary through craft, scrap, and paper. In doing so, we combine two modes of making and visual communication – jewelry and zine.

Each ‘Making & Breaking’ Zine issue features a unique jewelry-making exercise that rethinks ways of making and wearing jewelry; its interactivity sparks engagement with making and experimentation.

Our goal with the Zine series is to create a model for combining experimental jewelry-making and publishing that presents a powerful vehicle to inspire thought, action, and engagement with local landmarks, materials, and making processes.

This event is open to the public.
