Salomé: Woman of Valor

Salomé: Woman of Valor is the culmination of five years of collaboration between poet, performance artist, and professor of Humanities and Media Studies Adeena Karasick and Grammy Award-winning composer/trumpeter Frank London. The libretto, written by Karasick, who will perform it live, is a mix of historical, pop cultural, midrashic, and Kabbalistic references. The score blends Arabic, klezmer, jazz, and Bhangra music by the recently knighted (for his contribution to world music) Sir Frank London, performed with Indian percussionist virtuoso Deep Singh and Middle Eastern keyboard player Shai Bachar; dance created and performed by Rebecca Margolick and Jesse Zaritt; video projections by Elizabeth Mak that draw from Charles Bryant’s 1923 silent film Salomé, lit by Nicole Lang and directed by Alex Aron (co-creator of A Night in the Old Marketplace). The event is sponsored by the Academic Senate, the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Humanities and Media Studies Department, The Book Pub, and the Pratt Libraries.
