This Pratt Session will explore the concept of architectural context through differing and related conceptions of “patina” as both urban and material qualities present in the work and both firms and all four participants. The discussion seeks to highlight the importance of the affect of a building and its associated material sensibilities as critical aspects of community engagement and urban vitality in architectural design.

Organized by Graduate Architecture Chair David Erdman

About Pratt Sessions: This series brings together established and emerging, designers, thinkers, artists and/or philosophers from the NYC/Eastern seaboard region(s) with another similarly accomplished participant from a different region; typically the west coast. In short presentations that are followed by discussion, the participants are asked to address one of the two primary research themes established in the curriculum of the Graduate Architecture and Urban Design program.
