The seventh annual Interior Provocations symposium, “(un)making,” to be held at Pratt Institute on March 23, 2024, will explore making and unmaking not as opposites nor as simple binaries, but as co-present aspects of cultural production.

(Un)making may be tangible, an attention to the material as a process, whether linear, circular or otherwise.

(Un)making may be intangible, an interrogation of presence, place and time in physical and/or virtual environments.

(Un)making may surface methods and approaches for understanding and constituting interiors, both past and present.

(Un)making may propose alternative processes or logics by which interiors are formed or reformed.

Interior Provocations: (un)making seeks new discourse considering construction, deconstruction, reforming, and being in and of the interior. The conference encourages provocative and boundary-expanding proposals from design practitioners, historians, and theorists that challenge traditional assumptions and investigate overlooked parameters or influences, both today and in the past.
