Alex Schweder: The Sound and The Future
Every 1 dayAll DayFebruary 3 – February 9, 2020
Alex Schweder, Artist and Professor of Design, will site his inflatable environment The Sound and The Future in the School of Design’s second-floor design gallery. He describes this work as an air-powered architectural robot that reconfigures the spaces around it with hairy and metallic arms flopping and stiffening. Moving at a speed somewhere between the frenetic beat of techno and the glacial grind of a building, this installation moves but oh-like to the beat of Jeff Mill’s track “The Bells” slowed to a tenth of its original speed. This exhibition was made possible with generous support from the School of Design’s Dean’s Office and the Department of Interior Design. The Sound and The Future was commissioned by Wasserman Projects for its inaugural exhibition in Detroit in 2016.
