HAD-411P Transnational Feminisms

3 Credits

Spanning the mid-twentieth century through the present, this art history seminar approaches feminism in the plural. It does so recognizing that the perspectives of those who identify as women and/or feminists amount to a multiplicity of views. Accordingly, this course embraces transnational feminism, which attends to distinct and overlapping feminisms within and between cultures. We will study artistic practices throughout the globe in light of their particular historical engagement with patriarchy and other forces of oppression.
