This course will consider materials and techniques of Renaissance visual arts 1300-1600. Treatises, recipes, and writings of the period will be supplemented by recent conservation data. Pigments of the period, media and surfaces used for paintings, sculptural and building materials, drawing materials, as well as printmaking and various luxury embellishments will be considered.
