HAD-492P Pratt in Prague: Czech Modernism and Its Prehistories

3 Credits

After four remote class meetings before departure, students and faculty will converge in Prague for a 10-day full immersive program that includes student housing and a welcome and farewell dinner, as well as all museum admissions. The course will trace the development of visual arts (paintings, sculpture, photography, architecture, and design) primarily from the end of the 18th century until the present, although its site visits begin with a medieval prehistory of Bohemia and central Europe to foreground a variety of stylistic and narrative characteristics, as well as cultural and political conditions that will later reappear.
