2 Credits

This introductory course is designed for non-graphic design majors and focuses on the basic elements of graphic design. Words, pictures, time, and space are all the domain of the graphic designer - the designer of information. This course shows how and when to use photography, illustration, typography, and computer graphics to design logos, web pages, books, video spots, exhibits, posters, and packaging. The course will include a combination of hands-on studio projects and class discussions. Each project will provide the opportunity to learn how to use design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). Students will engage in discussions on the notion of good design, the role of design and the responsibility of the designer to meet the demands of an ever changing society.
