The long history of feminism in the United States is complex and rife with tensions regarding race and racism, economic disparities, and the continuums of gender and sexuality, and many others debates. The result is a range of hyphenated feminisms: liberal feminism, Black feminism, lesbian feminism, radical feminism and socialist feminism, to name only a few. This course will enable students to explore the roots and diversity of US feminisms, while also exploring the history of Anglo-European feminisms in relation to women's movements globally.
