ADE-401 Community Matters

3 Credits

This course enables students to apply discipline-specific knowledge and skills in an informal educational setting (after-school, community-based organization or museum). In addition students will obtain new knowledge and skills in planning and instruction, collaboration, and culturally responsive pedagogy in preparation for practice in the field of community-based art and design. Prior to working in a selected informal educational setting, students research the history, culture and politics of the community, undertake a neighborhood walk, and learn about the art and culture of the community through visiting selected institutions or studio visits.
