Hesse's technique of producing idealizing color values for publicity photographs came to epitomize the glamorous screen appeal of Hollywood movie stars. A pioneer in the use of color film in commercial photography, Hesse is known for his attention to detail, personally designed sets, and creative use of lighting which he first developed as a Pratt student.
