A pioneering female industrial designer in the auto industry, Vanderbilt designed elegant interior styling for GM’s luxury cars that spoke directly to female car buyers, an important new market in the 1950s. Vanderbilt became famous for being a member of GM’s Damsels of Design team, the majority of whom were recruited from Pratt’s industrial design program.
