STUDENTS BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING SCAMS:
There have been instances in which students have been contacted by people claiming to be from Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) or even Immigrations and Nationalization Services (INS) demanding money payments via debit cards, credit cards and even gift cards. They pressure mostly International Students by telling them they will either be arrested or deported if the payment is not made. The scammers then instruct the student on how to make the payment using their debit, credit, or by purchasing gift cards.
U.S. federal agencies NEVER OPERATE like this. They will never collect money over the phone via some form of credit card, debit card or gift card. BE AWARE THESE TYPES OF CALLS ARE ALWAYS SCAMS.
